About the work

Modern figures.
Unquiet color.

At twenty five, I started painting, just as a hobby, and my life quickly went from black and white to IMAX. Just over a year later, I was driving home, when I heard an unmistakable inner voice tell me to, “Go to San Diego and paint full-time”. After months of hesitation and trepidation, I took a leap of faith, and left the Midwest for sunny Southern California. After a precarious year or so, I started painting full-time and selling my paintings, primarily through design studios, rather than traditional art galleries.

Since I didn't go to art school, I've developed my own way of approaching a blank canvas, and I want to say up front that there is another element to this. There is a Creative Force at play that guides me, and learning to trust that incorporeal being has been a learning curve. But, when I do get out of the way, remarkable things occur.

After San Diego, I moved to New York City and started working with Ombretta Agró Andruff, an Italian-born contemporary art curator. She represented me and introduced my work into art fairs, galleries, and events like HangART-7 in Salzburg, Austria, where I was selected as one of seven top emerging artists from New York to showcase my work.

My paintings have been shown and sold in San Diego, LA, New York, Miami, Italy and Austria.

I prefer to paint on hard surfaces, like masonite, and I use mixed media, like house paint, acrylic paint, graphite, chalk, spray paint, and markers, anything that dries fast. When she's ready to go, The Muse moves pretty fast, and with an intoxicating flow. As strange as it is to admit these things, it's an honor to be a vessel for that creative energy.
